I'm aware that many - if not most - of my visitors got here through the keywords "Brandon Lee's 20th anniversary of death" (or its many varieties.) The keywords landed them on one of my posts on Brandon Lee which dates back to circa October 2011, which I published in the wake of "The Crow" remake that was scheduled to be released this year. In the post, I wrote that I suspected "The Crow" remake would be released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Brandon Lee's death.
March 31 2013 marked said 20th anniversary.
On April 1 1993, I was nine years old and staying at The Hyatt Regency in Surabaya, East Java. I was having breakfast with my family when my dad gasped at a piece of news in a local newspaper that read, "Bruce Lee's Son Takes A Bullet." Thus began my 20-year long, on-and-off celebrity crush on the son of Bruce Lee.
If you're familiar with Brandon Lee tidbits such as his interviews and documentaries on YouTube, I'm sure you've noticed that most of the time it's his mother Linda Lee and former operatic soprano sister Shannon Lee who talk about Brandon. It's very rare that you get other people's account on Brandon. This 20th anniversary, someone who was very lucky to have dated (yes, DATED) Brandon opens up to the world and gives a side of Brandon that no one has ever known. Shannon Bradley-Colleary has summed up her one full year of a relationship with Brandon in this long post, which some of you might find cheesy but if you're a semi hardcore fan of Brandon like me, you'll find it's worth the scrolling.
Oh yeah, and next time you type "Brandon Lee's 20th death anniversary" or something like that on Google, you'll land on this post instead of the other, older one that's actually more about "The Crow" remake.

Wish granted from beyond the grave...
Hey guys! Blogging from the office for the first time. I'm waiting for my two presenters Bonny Symons-Brown and Ruth Rosa to finish copy-editing today's news texts, then I can compile and insert the CG. My show is called "The Morning Show" and basically it's an English program with politics, business and entertainment news from Indonesia and beyond. If you have time, tune in to it every Monday to Friday 07:30 AM Western Indonesia time (WIB) on channel six First Media. Ads done, now news on yours truly! To keep it short, I submitted my thesis last week and am now awaiting oral defense, which will be sometime in late June. It's been postponed from April 30.
Hokay, now what I really want to blog about. You know my mild obsession with Brandon Lee...I think I've watched all the Brandon Lee videos on YouTube except the fan-made tribute ones. Recently I found this. Wonder what took me so long to search for it on YouTube...
That's Brandon's cameo part from a Swedish indie film "Sex, Lies and Video Violence." The film was shot circa 1993, but for some reasons it wasn't released until 2000. Now if you will, you can look up Brandon's interview with Paula Yates (RIP) on YouTube and see that Brandon says he'd like to "flip flop back and forth" between action, mainstream and indie movies. The interview was filmed circa January 1993, just before Brandon started filming "The Crow", which would be his first and last "mainstream" movie (by that I mean a stretch from his usual action fares.) So he got to flip to the mainstream. Seven years after his untimely death in March 1993, his only indie film was released. So his wish has been granted - appearances in action, mainstream and indie productions.
And that huge earring in the cameo! Look up a clip from his 1991 movie "Showdown in Little Tokyo", where Brandon compliments co-star Dolph Lundgren's character on his endowment ("You have the biggest dick I've ever seen on a man.") Furthermore, look up a clip of his interview in Germany where he swears at a journalist for asking about his dad. I wonder how Bruce Lee would have reacted to all this...

An idiom and its literal interpretation...
I love Brandon Lee. I've been mildly obsessed with him since 2003. I recently found an MTV interview with him shot in November 1992, just four months before he was killed on the set of The Crow. Take a look.
If you don't have all day, forward it to 1:43 where the son of Bruce Lee talks about punishing a man that broke into his Echo Park house. He says he dislocated the man's shoulder, broke his arm, nose and jaw. It's just interesting how he says it all like it's a walk in the park...while he and the interviewer are actually walking in a park! Good concept, Cult Corner!

Brandon Lee....
No you're not gonna find a Brandon Lee and Heath Ledger comparison here. That's been done too often.
On The Crow remake, set to release in 2013, I hear that Bradley Cooper (who was slated to play Eric Draven, Brandon's character in the original Crow) has dropped out and director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has considered Mark Wahlberg to fill in Brandon's shoes. Mark Wahlberg is at least someone the late Brandon Lee would have been familiar with (he most likely knew him better as Marky Mark.) Honestly I don't care whether The Crow remake should see the light of day or not.
I wonder if this movie is made to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Brandon's passing? For those of you who don't know, Brandon Lee, son of Bruce, passed away on March 31 1993 due to an accident on the set of The Crow, which was to be his only hit movie (his previous ones are B-grade action movies.) He was only 28.
Now check out this video, released by his sister Shannon to celebrate his 45th birthday.
What a perfect song to suit the video's mood. The background music is Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, a musician who left the world in 1997 at the age of 30. Another talented life taken way too soon.
